Ethernet over FttC (GEA)
Ethernet over FttC or GEA is a relatively new service available only where Fibre to the Cabinet (FttC) is already enabled.
This is an entry level to full Business Grade connectivity and carries all the enhanced benefits of more expensive 'leased lines'.
The service differs from the inexpensive "Infinity" broadband in 3 key ways:
- Uncontended 1:1 - no sharing, guaranteed bandwidth 100% of the time
- Symmetrical speed - usually 20Mbps upload and download (distance dependent)
- SLA - 6 hour fix (subject to the usual caveats)
Where available, this is the product of choice for Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) who rely heavily on a stable internet connection for online services like email, hosted applications and of course, Voice over IP (VoIP). The high troughput and low latency/jitter of these circuits is ideal for ISDN replacement with SIP trunks or Hosted Telephony.
EoFttC/GEA costs less and is more realiable than EFM and is considerably less than full Fibre to the Premises services. Call us today to check availability at your location and to get a quote.
